THE FIRST SUN IS MINE

You know how when you lose the use of one or more of your senses it enhances the others?

In 2011, I moved far away from all of my close friends and family and did not have the time or ability to consistently and conveniently communicate with them. I was hundreds of miles away from people who truly understood me.

A month ago, I did it again. Granted, the circumstances are a bit different, but both situations left me lacking interactions with humans that truly understood me.

I only bring this up because I've noticed a similarity between both of the situations - an enhanced love, reliance on, and comfort found in music. Music became more of a comfort and support for me than it had ever been before.

Every day, the new songs I hear and sing are like new friends that truly "get me." I can't seem to describe this sensation because I don't usually experience music like this. But I can only imagine it is like having one sense taken away and another enhanced in order to help you survive.

Enjoy two of my new best friends below:

But, when comes the thaw,
The first sun is mine
The first kiss of April is mine.
The first sun is mine.
- Mimi, La Boheme
